Rig Spotlight: WhiteCivicEX1

With the most deceiving name in the Overland & Off-Road community, WhiteCivicEX1, aka Brandon, has assembled a clean and purpose-built Toyota 4Runner. After spending his childhood outdoors in a tent, this world was a natural, “next-step,” for Brandon. Join us as we feature Brandon and his 4Runner in today’s Rig Spotlight.

Why did you choose this Rig?

Ive always liked the 4runner and liked the idea of having a full roof to carry things as well as keep essential things inside (Fridge) out of the elements, which I couldn’t do on my last rig. Having off-road capabilities is always a plus as well.

Why do you Overland?

My First Overland Rig was a 2007 Toyota Tacoma on 35’s. I had  grown up camping and continued doing so into adulthood. I first saw overland on TV from the guys in Australia. I was hooked.

What is your background?

I spent 6 years in the Air Force right out of High School as a Cruise Missile Technician. Went to school while I was in, and got out and became an Engineer for an Aerospace Company. I travel a lot for work, so I try to fit trips in as I can. I enjoy meeting new people with like interests and sharing knowledge with others.

Where are you from?

I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley (Baldwin Park/West Covina). I lived in Louisiana while I was in the Air Force, and now reside in Santa Clarita.

Favorite trip or location?

I would have to say Death Valley up around the Saline area is one of my favorites. Its remote and scenic and often gets some shows from military jets. Up on the list to go is Ouray, CO,

Most important thing you have learned?

The most important thing I have learned is you can never be too prepared. It is always good to make sure you bring extra of everything. You never know if you will come across a situation that you will need it or others in need.

Tips for those new to overlanding?

Plan out your trip very carefully. Make sure you have all the essential things (Food, Water, recovery stuff).
